Shear Strength of Lightly Reinforced T-Beams in Negative Bending

چکیده

Nine restrained T-beams were tested in a study of the negative moment region shear strength of lightly reinforced concrete T-beams. Variables included the longitudinal reinforcement ratio p, (0.47 percent and 0. 70 percent) and the nominal stirrup strength (0 to 84 psi [0 to 0.60 MPa]). The test results are compared with the shear provisions of "Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete (ACI 318-83)." Both the concrete and stirrup contributions to shear strength are lower in negative than in positive moment regions. In both moment regions, the cracking shear is lower and the stirrup contribution is higher than predicted by A C/ 318. Current provisions are conservative for positive moment regions of beams with p, to ;;. 0.5 percent. The provisions are also conservative for negative moment regions in which the factored shear V, is less than or equal to the design shear strength of the concrete r/>V,. However, ACI 318 appears to be unconservative for negative moment regions of beams with p, .,; 0. 7 percent and V, > q, V,. The provisions may also be unconservative for joists with p • .,; I percent and ¢VJ2 .,; V, .,; q,V,.

Stepwise Regression for shear capacity assessment of steel fiber reinforced concrete beams

The addition of steel fibers into concrete improves the postcracking tensile strength of hardened concrete and hence significantly enhances the shear strength of reinforced concrete reinforced concrete beams. However, developing an accurate model for predicting the shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams is a challenging task as there are several parameters such as the co...

Experimental and Theoretical Investigation on Shear Strengthening of RC Precraced Continuous T-beams Using CFRP Strips

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets are externally bonded to reinforced concrete (RC) members to provide additional strength such as flexural, shear, etc. It has been widely accepted that carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRPs) can be used effectively to strengthen reinforced concrete (RC) members. This paper is intended to study and use externally bonded CFRP strips to repair and st...

Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System Models for Predicting the Shear Strength of Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams

A reinforced concrete member in which the total span or shear span is especially small in relation to its depth is called a deep beam. In this study, a new approach based on the Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is used to predict the shear strength of reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams. A constitutive relationship was obtained correlating the ultimate load with seven mechanical a...

Behavior of Coupling Beams Strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer Sheets

In this research, using the results of 6 tests, the effect of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets on the behavior of reinforced concrete coupling beams of shear walls is studied. First, in the experimental part of the study, four coupling beams with different reinforcements were manufactured and tested. Then, after the failure of the specimens, two of them were rehabilitated and stren...

Impact of High Strength Rebars on Seismic Behavior of Lightly Reinforced Boundary Elements

Considering economical reasons and attempting to reduce carbon foot print of concrete structures, there is increasing tendency toward use of high strength reinforcement in seismically active regions. ACI 318-19, Iranian steel rebars standard INSO 3132 and next edition of Iranian national building allow the use of high strength rebars in elements of ductile force resisting systems. Therefore it ...
